Good new for fans of Borough Market: London's oldest fruit and veg market is extending its opening hours from next week.
The traditional market bell marking the start of trading will ring on Wednesday next week, as the market offers full trading from Wednesday to Saturday for the first time. (Until now, there's only been trading from Thursday to Saturday.) On Wednesday and Thursday, you can shop from 10am til 5pm; the market stays open til 6pm on a Friday. And for foodies intent on securing particular Borough treats, the best time to shop is still early on a Saturday, when trading starts at 8am and runs until 5pm.
In addition, the market will be open for lunch on Mondays and Tuesdays, from 10am to 5pm. Perfect for anyone who works in London Bridge and is bored with their Pret/Eat sarnie.
Did you know? While the area around Borough and London Bridge has been a trading spot since at least 1041, official market stalls set up in what is now Borough High Street in the 13th century. There's been a market there ever since. Visit boroughmarket.org.uk to find out more.
