If the first signs of spring are the cherry blossom and the daffodils, then announcements for London's various pop-up cinemas are surely the herald of summer. Unlike most temporary screens, which are fixed to London's rooftops, flyovers and other unlikely spaces, Nomad Cinema puts itself about, screening films in numerous quarters of the city.
The summer 2013 lineup has just been announced, and offers a mix of 80s classics, and more recent gems. Also, it appears to be the first pop-up cinema, in the world, ever, to not have Back to the Future on its bill. Great Scott!
We won't list all 18 events out here, but a few that particularly catch our eye are:
- 15 July: The wisely humorous Adam Buxton picks over unusual and incredible music videos in a big tent in Ealing.
- 22 August: The Motorcycle Diaries in Horniman Gardens, just because it's a good film in a splendid location.
- 4 September: The Lost Boys in Coram Secret Garden (a former home for lost boys and girls).
- 5 September: When Harry Met Sally in Fulham Palace (watch a simulated orgasm in the home of a bishop).
Booking is now open, with some shows likely to sell out fast, so get in quick. Ticket prices vary from £8.50 to £15.
