Your Chance To Run In The Olympic Stadium

Fancy running in the Olympic Stadium? Of course you do; even if the thought of jogging fills you with cold dread, running round the track would make anyone thrill. And here's your chance: at 9am on Thursday 25 April, 10,000 places on the National Lottery's Anniversary Run go on sale. It's a 5km mile run round the Queen Elizabeth Park on 21 July, finishing in the stadium.

Tickets cost £27.50 and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. If you live in Newham you can apply for one of 750 free places; if you want to run with children there are 2,000 places on a shorter family run that costs £7. Each runner will be able to bring two guests who can sit in the stadium and cheer.

The news comes on the same day the London Assembly launched its report into ticket pricing during the Olympics. They found that it was impossible to see a medal session for less than £50, and some of the prices for major sessions are eyewatering. The average price to see Mo Farah win gold in the 5,000m was £333; 58% of people at the men's 100m final paid more than £294; the average price paid to see Tom Daley in the 10m platform final was £203.

The number of tickets available to the public also varied. London 2012 insists that 75% of tickets were available to the UK public, but less than half of track cycling tickets, and 45% of swimming medal sessions, went to the public. For future sporting events, the Assembly recommends more transparency and consistent pricing on tickets, minimum levels for the public and use of ballots to allocate tickets.
