SCI-ART: 15 works of art by St Martin's students are dotted around the public bits of the British Library from today, all with scientific themes. Go hunt them down. Free, just turn up, until 24 March
EXTREME LIFE: This month's Cafe Scientifique, led by Liane Benning at the Royal Society, discusses how organisms living at extreme Antarctic conditions can tell us things about the possibility of life on other planets. Free, just turn up, 6.30pm

FERTILITY: The Academy of Medical Sciences is running an evening about assisted fertility and sperm donation, with a film screening and meet-the-expert. Free, prebook, 6.30pm
MEDICINE: We've seen more than one person get inflamed during a pub debate in our time. Tonight's Cosy Science event (upstairs at the Yorkshire Grey on Theobalds Road) looks at what inflammation (in a physical, things swelling up type way) actually is, and how it has a part to play in many diseases. Free, just turn up, 7pm

EYES: Today's Gresham lecture at the Museum of London looks (in more than one sense) at the different abilities of eyes in different creatures. Free, just turn up, 6pm
HEART: Like some kind of tardy Valentine's tie-in, this month's Science Museum Lates is themed around the heart. These adults-only events are highly recommended if you've not been before. Free, just turn up, 6.45-10pm
SUPERVILLAINS: The Bedroom Bar on Rivington Street has a quirky-sounding SuperLAB event about supervillains, how to beat lie detectors and the how to implant thoughts. Free, just turn up, 7.30pm
KINETICA: The annual Kinetica Art Fair returns to Ambika P3 on Marylebone Road, a chance to see and potentially buy kinetic art, robotics and other combos of science, technology and art. It's £25 tonight, but £16 thereafter. Runs till 3 March
Thursday 28 February
LANGUAGE: Ten years ago, British Sign Language was formally recognised as a language in its own right, and is now used by 125,000 people in the UK. An event at the Royal Society tonight looks at the history, development and culture surrounding BSL. Free, just turn up, 6pm
Friday 1 March
ALIENS: The Royal Observatory Greenwich finally gets round to doing an exhibition about aliens, looking at our obsession, historic and present, with life on other planets. We'll have a review later in the week. Free, just turn up, runs till August
SCI-LIT: Another Royal Society event today looks at Jonathan Swift's spat with Isaac Newton (everyone had some kind of spat with Newton). Free, just turn up, 1pm
VOICE: Wellcome Collection presents Voice, an evening devoted to the wonders of enunciation, and with a lineup to shout about. Free, just drop in, 7-11pm
Saturday 2 March
YOUNGSTERS: A family fun day at the Royal Institution lets junior geeks play around with modern alchemy under the watchful eyes of Peter Wothers. £10, just drop in, 11am-4pm
BRAINS: The Barbican kicks off a season of programming about the art and science of the brain with a Weekender devoted to the (grey and white) matter. Expect installations, performances, a special Science Showoff, and much more. Free, just turn up, all weekend
