SNOWDROPS: Chelsea Physic Garden opens for snowdrop spotting, wintry walks, talks and gardening advice. Entry £9/£6, under 5s free. Open from 2-9 February from 10am-4pm.

ZOMBIES: Visit ZombieLab at the Science Museum, take part in experiments, play games, try the zombie trial and learn something about the science of consciousness. Free entry, museum is open 10am-6pm.

QUEER FILM: Enjoy a weekend of Classic, Camp and Cult: Queer Film at the V&A with curator intros, Q&As and queer-themed British Pathe clips from the 1920s to the 1960s. Individual screenings cost £4/£3. Check the programme (PDF) for details and timings. Part of LGBT History Month.

JAPANESE FILM: Choose from seven films by contemporary Japanese film makers at the ICA this weekend, as the Once Upon A Time in Japan film season gets underway on Friday night. Check the ICA website for times and tickets.

CLASSICAL MUSIC: Dive into 20th century classical music with The Rise of Nationalism weekend at the Royal Festival Hall. Explore the scientific, cultural and historical themes that changed the political and musical map of Europe through talks, films, discussions and workshops all included in the weekend pass £25 or day pass £15. Some events are free to join, on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-6pm.

BEER: Canonbury's Snooty Fox pub hosts its seventh, It's Brim Oop North beer festival of northern real ale, including many from micro-breweries rarely seen in London. Starts Thursday 31 January, ends Sunday 3 February.

Saturday 2 February

NEWS: Comedians, politicians, campaigners and journalists Crunch the News at the Old Red Lion, Islington. Tickets £5, starts 12.15pm.

NO BOB DYLAN: Watch ruminations of Dylan's life and work in film I'm Not There, screening at the National Gallery. Tickets £5, starts 1pm.

RUGBY: Six Nations kicks off with Wales v Ireland at 1pm and England v Scotland at 3.30pm. Where will you watch it?

SHHH: An all day celebration of quiet and unusual music takes place in Heath Street Baptist Church, Hampstead. Tickets £12.50, prebook. Festival starts from 2pm.

MAMMA MIA: Four Weddings and a Disco puts on a screening of Mamma Mia before a wedding themed party including confetti, the first dance, chucking the bouquet and pineapple and cheese on a stick for the first 25 through the door at The Phoenix, Cavendish Square. Tickets £10 adv+bf, doors 7.30pm.

LGBT HISTORY: Catch artist and performer Wu Tsang’s film Wilderness, a portrait of the Silver Platter, a historic bar on the eastside of Los Angeles, in The Tanks at Tate Modern. Part of LGBT History Month. Entry £5, starts 8pm.

PYJAMA PARTY: Watch all your favourite John Hughes movies back to back in your jim jams at the Prince Charles Cinema. Tickets £25, starts 9pm.

Sunday 3 February

WONDER: Join the Sunday Assembly and regain a sense of wonder with with super particle physicist Harry Cliff, “the Science Museum’s chief tiny thing explainer” plus songs and readings and no religion at all at The Nave, 1 St Paul’s Road, N1. Free, starts 11am.

CARNAGE CAR BOOTY: The London Dungeon flogs off Tooley Street's gory props and costumes at Pimlico Car Boot Sale, Lupus Street. £1 entry, under 10s free from 11.30am.

THE SEA: Join a day of talks and workshops with photographers, fishermen and conservationists in Oceans, Landscape and the Lens at National Maritime Museum. Tickets are £22 which includes lunch and an after-hour special curator's tour of Ansel Adams: Photography from the Mountains to the Sea. Prebook, runs 12-5pm.

HITCHCOCK: Watch a Hitchcock double bill of The Birds and Rear Window at the Phoenix Cinema, East Finchley. Tickets £9.50/£7, screening starts 1.30pm.

DEATH ROW: One For Ten is a series of documentaries about people who have been released from Death Row. The project launches with a screenings, Institute of Ideas debate and an exhibition at Vibe Bar, Brick Lane. Suggested £10 donation but nobody will be turned away. Just turn up, from 2pm.

CLOWNS: The annual Grimaldi service takes place at the Holy Trinity Church, Dalston. Turn out for the spectacle, the service or to take the kids to see clowns perform in the church hall afterwards. Free, just turn up 3-5pm.

ORGAN MUSIC: Listen to a half hour Bach organ recital in beautiful St Paul's Cathedral. Free, just turn up at 4.45pm.

MILES DAVIS: Classic Album Sundays session on Kind of Blue sold out so they've added a second sitting at Hanbury Arms, Islington. Tickets £6+bf in advance or £6 on the door. Booking recommended, session runs 8-11pm.

SUPER BOWL: American football fans can flock together at Super Bowl XLVII parties across town - check out our handy guide. Game starts at 11.30pm.
