Volunteers Needed To Help Clean Up The Thames

Charity Thames21 holds an annual autumn drive to help clear the Thames of unsightly detritus, particularly plastic bags, which continue to pose a hazard to wildlife and boat propellors. This year's volunteer days begin on Thursday and run through the weekend.

The cleanups are a doubly good use of your time. Not only are you improving the local environment, but you'll also see the Thames from a new angle, and perhaps make a few friends along the way.

There's no need to book. Just show up at any of the following times and locations in old clothing appropriate for the weather. All equipment is provided:

Thurs 18 October
Isle of Dogs, Newcastle Draw Dock E14 3BW, 9am-noon
Nearest Tube: Island Gardens

Friday 19 October
Hammersmith Bridge South Side, Riverview Gardens SW13 9QT, 11.30am-2.30pm

Sat 20 October
Battersea Bridge South Side, Battersea Bridge Road SW11 3BZ, 11am-2pm

Sun 21st October:
Erith Yacht Club, Erith Marshes off Manor Rd DA8 2AJ, 10.30am-1pm
