Metal artwork has been around for many centuries with examples to be found in the Royal Academy's Bronze exhibition and perhaps the most resplendent pieces being the door panels of the Florence Baptistery — christened the Gates of Paradise by Michelanagelo when he first saw them.
These days metalwork is often seen more as a commercial endeavour than artistic, and in line with this Metall-FX is a company more used to creating metal coatings for domestic and business properties. But over the past two years they've invited artists to work with them to produce metal paintings and sculptures. These artists have manipulated the material into works that aren't quite either sculpture or painting. You've probably seen nothing quite like them.
This exhibition showcases work by 13 different artists. They range from representational depictions of planets and fossils right through to abstract pieces.
Metall-FX is on at Gallery Different, 14 Percy Street, W1T 1DR until 6 October. Entrance is free.
