Things To Do In London On The Cheap: 6-12 August

Olympics, all week: BT London Live is free to access in Hyde Park and Victoria Park with Olympics on screen and live music plus there are big screens in Potters Fields, Walthamstow Town Square, General Gordon Square Woolwich plus on the Lewisham Big Screen on Blackheath, Hackney's big screen on Haggerston Park and on Camden Beach (free entry).

Monday: Attend a photography workshop The Changing Faces of London: Capturing the Moment at citizenM hotel London Bankside between 6-7pm (free).

Tuesday: The Olympic Men's Triathlon Final is in Hyde Park and you can watch it from 11.30am (free).

The Vintage Circus Show entertain at Hackney House from 8pm (free entry, but RSVP).

Wednesday: Watch Mike Leigh's High Hopes at the Portobello Pop-Up Cinema from 8pm - film followed by a Q&A with the director himself (£5).

Thursday: The south side of the Serpentine will be open to the public to support the Olympic Women's 10km Swimming Marathon from noon (free).

It's Games Night aboard the Golden Hinde (£3).

Friday: It's the Men's turn to swim the Serpentine in the Olympic Men's 10km Swimming Marathon from noon (free on the south side).

Watch a BMX showcase at the Book Club Basecamp in the Leonard Street carpark between 6-8pm (free).

Saturday: Cheer on the Olympic Men's 50km Race Walk from 9am (free).

Proms Plus Inspire sees The Aurora Orchestra performs the winning entries from this year’s Proms Inspire Young Composers’ Competition from 5.30-6.30pm (free) and the Proms Plus Late at the Royal College of Music offers music and poetry from emerging artists from 10pm (free, first come, first served).

Sunday: Line the route of the Olympic Men's Marathon which sets off from the Mall at 11am (free).

Kilburn's Tricycle Theatre hosts a festival celebrating 50 years of Trinidad & Tobago independence with free events until 25 August - today, there's a family friendly Calypso/Carnival, storytelling and a concert from midday (free).
