Preview: Urban Food Week

London's first Urban Food Week takes place 10-16 September, celebrating local food and growing.

More than 30 restaurants will be serving London fruit and veg, sometimes from within a couple of hundred metres. St Mungo's will supply The Table Cafe in Southwark and the Street Kitchen van; the Duke of Cambridge in Islington will serve produce from Hackney urban farm Growing Communities; Clerkenwell Kitchen's salads will come from Edible Golden Lane; InSpiral Lounge, Friend’s House and Hornbeam Café will get their salads from Organiclea and there'll be local honey at St Ermin's hotel, Cornercopia in Brixton and La Bouche on Broadway Market. If you prefer your local produce liquid, Shebeen in Kentish Town is devising London honey and lavender cocktails. The Ethical Eats website is putting together a map with all participating restaurants, available soon.

You can be more pro-active at a mushroom growing workshop run by Urban Harvest, go on one of their foraging walks, or visit one of the 57 gardens in the Capital Growth network throwing open their doors on 15 September. For £150 Food Safari will spend a day showing you how to forage for and cook food in London.

There's loads more events planned so keep an eye on the Urban Food Week website, as well as for posters and stickers appearing round the city.
