Teatro Vivo, the fearless-but-sweet spoken theatre company who brought us Supermarket Shakespeare, are apparently not content with tackling our own British bard, but have now taken on the father of Western literature. Aka Homer. They are staging the Odyssey as a promenade performance all-along down-along out-along the streets of Deptford.

This is an epic task in several respects. Firstly, it is outdoors, and like any other al fresco performance in London this Summer, they are battling Zeus-who-drives-the-thunderheads. Aka the weather. Secondly, the Odyssey is really rather long, and quite hard to cram into the space of a couple of hours. And then, well, we are talking about the loud-roaring, wine-dark streets of one of London's most eclectic neighbourhoods.

The glancing-eyed, strong-greaved audience are invited to follow Telemachus as he looks for his lost father, the eponymous Odysseus, perhaps completing a little odyssey of their own along the way. Teatro Vivo tempt us with gods and goddesses, nymphs and monster, death and desire . Frankly this sounds all kinds of ace: we can't get along to see it ourselves, so we'd quite like you to go along and report back.

Performances are at 7.30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays, and the run finishes on the 23rd June.
Tickets are £12, £7 for concessions. You can book through the Albany or call 0208 692 4446 to make a reservation.
