While there are some excellent nominations for this year's Chortle Awards (we're seriously contemplating personally escorting every single one of you down to the Soho Theatre to experience Adam Riches), the list is notable for a lack of women. Susan Calman is up for Best Compere, Dana Alexander for Club Comic, Danielle Ward and Margaret Cabourn-Smith are permanent members of Do The Right Thing and some women perform in La Soiree, but... No room for Sarah Millican's DVD? No nod for Cariad Lloyd in character comedy?
It seems like the right moment to flag up the monthly Funny Women night at Leicester Square Theatre, that happens to be on tomorrow. Rosie Wilby hosts, with sets from Gemma Whelan in her alternate guise as Chastity Butterworth (watch the video), Gemma Goggin, Gabriella Burnel and Mae Martin. Oh yes, and they have their own awards too. Because anyone who tells you women aren't funny are, frankly, talking cock.
The next Funny Women at Leicester Square Theatre is on Friday 24 February at 9pm, £10 / £8.
