You can expect almost daily posts about Charles Dickens for the foreseeable future, as the excitement pegged to his 200th birthday reaches a crescendo. Today's nugget concerns a new £2 coin featuring the Dickens countenance.

The gleaming specie will go into circulation next spring. The author's face comprises the titles of his most famous works, while the rim bears the legend 'Something will turn up' (this being the catchphrase of pecuniary nitwit Wilkins Micawber in David Copperfield). The coin is designed by currency veteran Matthew Dent.

A collector's edition, finished to a higher level of quality and presented in a special folder, is available for £8.50.
