Charity Single "Christmas In Soho" Marks World Aids Day

If you're looking for a community project with a difference, step forward the crew behind the seasonal single Christmas In Soho by Dusty "O" and the Soho Cares Singers.

Like a gay Band Aid, the song gathers together a chorus of luminaries from the London cabaret scene including professional controversialist David Hoyle, the Trannyshack Gurlz and the song's co-writer herself Dusty "O" (David Hodge to his mum) alongside quite a few locally-based professional musicians like Dead or Alive's Jay Jon, 1960s star Mari Wilson and the Mickey Mouse-alike Marc Massive.

Written by BoiSounds Music, the song was recorded at Ray Davies' Konk Studios in Hornsey while the video was filmed in the Barbican's Victims Of Glamour. We haven't seen the final version of the latter but the behind-the-scenes footage makes for interesting viewing.

As well as the singers giving up their time for free, this project was made possible through donations from The Yard, The Edge, Ku Bar and Circa as well as donations from Soho establishments plus a bring and buy sale at Madame Jojo's.

You can purchase the song at iTunes from today, proceeds from which will go towards the non-profit organisation Status set up to encourage people to get tested for HIV.
