Video: Farringdon Station's New Ticket Hall

Next month the new ticket hall for Thameslink passengers (and, in the future, Crossrail) will open at Farringdon station. The video above, produced by Network Rail, shows a fly-through around the new bits.

The ticket hall, opposite Farringdon's existing entrance, leads passengers down to the newly-extended platforms, which will accommodate the 12-car trains that First Capital Connect will introduce from 12th December. Lifts providing step-free access to the platform level will open next year.

With the new hall opening, the existing Grade II-listed entrance, with it's façade bearing the legend 'Farringdon & High Holborn Station' (itself currently undergoing restoration work), will be closed to allow refurbishment and expansion work, and to link it to the new concourse. It will re-open in February 2012.

When the work is complete, and Crossrail opens in 2018, Farringdon will be one of the capital's busiest stations, with high capacity north-south and east-west routes linked to the Hammersmith & City and Circle lines on the Underground; at peak times up to 140 trains an hour will pass through. Not bad for one of the oldest stations on the network.

Cheers to @TomSEdwards for the video tip-off
