Greenwich has been a dance hothouse for years with famous centres like Greenwich Dance Agency and Laban drawing shape-throwers to London from all over the world. Confirming its reputation for ground breaking dance, GDA and Greenwich Council are hosting 10 fabulous days of dance.
From 24 June to 3 July, Greenwich is determined to get 4000 residents and visitors dancing, with a series of free dance performances and workshops taking place in intriguing locations all over the Borough, from parks to the riverside, in its museums and on the streets.
This edgy festival bursts forth with Crossroads on the 25 to 26 June, performed by both professional and community dancers , it will be choreographed by Luca Silvestrini, known for his witty and analytic work and composed by Andy Pink. There's still an opportunity to get involved.
Also on the bill is Tea Revives the world (we strongly agree with the sentiment) from 20 June to 2 July, a site-specific performance experiment inspired by the piers of Greenwich and the famous Cutty Sark tea-clipper.
Aerial Artists from Candoco will be performing Heartland, a spectacular duet based on the Minotaur and Icarus on 25 and 26 June.
On the Move workshops will be training up the public all over the place, including street dance at Twinkle Park, ballroom and Tango classes.
Finally for a fancy finish there will be some high frolicking at Eltham Palace on 3 July with world dance, music and circus.
