Whilst he married her and many subjects got overexcited about hats and what kind of royals the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will turn out to be, Red Lion Square was also awash with the union flag but borne by republicans pledging allegiance to all things British.

Despite hoo hah with Camden Council over where they would be allowed to hold the party, over 1000 people partied peacefully, republican style on 29 April causing no problems for the police.

Among the personal pledges of allegiance adorning bunting flags around the square were those to the NHS, tea and cake and 'ludicrous eccentricity'.
