Sign Up To Switch Off For Earth Hour 2011 Now

Earth Hour happens this Saturday 26 March at 8.30pm.

What began as a grass roots 'switch off' initiative to remind the world at large about the finite resources of our planet is now a global statement from people concerned about climate charge, coordinated by WWF whose mission is "to stop the degradation of the Earth's natural environment and build a future where people live in harmony with nature."

There's an element of competitiveness in the drive to get people not only to commit to the 60 minute switch off, but to add their name to the list of those participating to influence governments to take notice. Greater London is currently a lamentable 56th on the UK leaderboard of counties, with Scotland kicking England's arse in the commitment stakes all round. If you plan to switch off at 8.30pm on Saturday, sign up now, support Earth Hour and show London cares.

The Piccadilly Circus lights will go dim for only the fourth time since the second World War. Other landmarks taking part are Nelson's Column and the fountains at Trafalgar Square, the National Gallery, the Royal Albert Hall, The Gherkin, London Eye, National Theatre and Wembley Stadium.
