After a largely peaceful afternoon of demonstration, today's student protests have becomeĀ more confrontational. The most serious flashpoint came as protesters exiting Parliament Square towards Victoria Street found themselves corralled in by police lines.
The mood turned particularly ugly after a group of around ten mounted police officers charged into the crowd. The action was seemingly prompted by attacks on the police, with some protesters deliberately striking horses and hurling paint, snooker balls and other missiles.
Several arrests have been made and a number of injuries have been reported. More as it develops.
