Eyes to the sky (again) at around 3pm today, when a flypast by WW2 aircraft will mark the official launch of a statue of Sir Keith Park, the WW2 hero who commanded RAF squadrons during the Blitz. Sir Park's statuary status has become a political issue in recent years: campaigners wanted him to be permanently installed on the Fourth Plinth at Trafalgar Square, something that, as Mayoral candidate, Boris Johnson supported, before reneging on the deal. A statue was placed on the plinth for six months, but the new one, at Waterloo Place, provides a more fitting permanent memorial.
