Lembit Öpik Confirms Mayoral Run

As the LIberal Democrat conference gets underway, former MP Lembit Öpik has confirmed what he intimated earlier this year: he intends to be the party's candidate in the 2012 Mayoral election. The member for Montgomeryshire, who lost his seat in May this year, made a play for the candidacy in 2008, but was beaten out by Brian Paddick; having rattled through a few more celeb girlfriends in the meantime, and proved his stand-up credentials, Öpik may be hoping that he'll have a better chance this time.
