Clissold Leisure Centre Nominated For Award

1108_clissold.jpg Time was that Stoke Newington's Clissold Leisure Centre was a huge embarrassment to both Hackney council and the Labour government. The hi-tech facility, funded with £34m of Lottery moolah and opened to much fanfare in 2000, was closed three years later after serious flaws in both its structure and internal layout were discovered. Yet after re-opening in 2007, the Centre has proved more successful, a fact that has been recognised: it was one of five finalists for the FLAME award, which (as keen observers of the leisure industry award scene will know) stands for Fitness Leadership and Management Excellence. Sadly, the muscle busters at Clissold won't be able to celebrate with a glass of Progain: the centre finished second at the award ceremony last month.
