An email to Cycle Hire users from TfL yesterday confirmed that "no usage charges" were applied to anybody who hired (or attempted to hire) a bike on Friday, the day the scheme went live. Despite our trouble-free experience, a number of users found that they were unable to get a bike out of the docking station, and some were billed for trips that they never took. These niggles aside, the launch went fairly well: more than 6,000 journeys were made on the Friday alone, and some of the mobile apps are now able to display real-time data on bike and docking station availability.
