Epic Tennis Match Covered By Epic Liveblog

2406_tennis.png Xan Brooks of The Guardian can't have put too much thought into being given the job of liveblogging the record book-shredding Isner-Mahut match yesterday. Yet as the game stretched out into the evening, Brooks, obliged to report on every single bit of action, was forced time and again to delve into the well of his imagination, hauling out metaphors, factoids, irreverentisms, taking in Beckett and zombies and fondly-remembered kids films, while churning out enough verbiage (some 6,000 words) to virtually guarantee a spot in the Guardian's bookshop before year end. It's a great read, and unlike the poor players themselves, Brooks has a break from the match today. It resumes later on Court 18. (Photo / Luke Robinson)
