Smash-And-Grab Raid At Westfield

0505_westfield2.jpg Robbers stole tens of thousands of pounds worth of jewellery from two stores at Westfield, west London in the wee hours of this morning. The raiders, believed to number 10 or so, smashed their way into the Shepherd's Bush complex with sledgehammers, and robbed branches of De Beers and Tiffany & Co. before escaping by car. Police report that nobody was injured in the theft. The break-in, the first such event at Westfield, comes amidst an increase in smash-and-grab thefts from high-end jewellery stores, the most notable being the £40 million Bond Street heist last year; the accused in that case are currently on trial.
