The mayor was pulling no punches when he 'ruthlessly scuppered' what he described as Gordon Brown's pet project, the public-private partnership (PPP) which has left tube maintenance in disarray. After forking out £310m to bring the company under the TfL umbrella and (hopefully) an end to the seemingly ceaseless misery of weekend closures and upgrade works, Boris seems to at last be attempting to get a firm grip on the maintenance of London's transport system. As he's already trying to do with roadworks, the aim is to reduce the number of closures by streamlining work. Hallelujah.
