Watkins Bookshop Closes Down

Watkins_small.jpg London's oldest esoteric bookshop, Watkins on Cecil Court, is under threat of liquidation unless a buyer can be found by 25th March. The shop, which has been running since 1894 and had a presence on the famed bookselling street since 1905 (which we visited last summer), went into administration last week, citing poor trading and a half a million quid bill for Capital Gains Tax. Bibliophiles can still pick up mystical, religious and occult works at Treadwell's and Atlantis, but it'll be a sad day if such a longstanding institution goes under.
