Piccadilly Circus Goes Naked

The tourist suction device that is Piccadilly Circus is set for a £14 million redesign. The pedestrian bottleneck will be denuded of a kilometre of barriers and other extraneous street furniture (Eros gets a stay of execution, natch). Additional traffic islands and improved crossings are also on the cards. The road improvements will stretch as far as Pall Mall, preparing the area for Olympic footfall in 2012. The rejig is being prepped by Atkins, whose work you may remember from such circuses as Oxford. Work begins in November this year for completion in late 2011. We might just ask to go back and view it all from above.
