Lord's Cricket Ground To Keep Name

lordsmedia.jpg The mania for re-naming stadia after corporate sponsors (cf: the new Spurs ground, Stamford Bridge, sportsdirect.com@St James' Park) won't spread to the verdant greens of Lord's cricket ground. Despite needing to raise hundreds of million of pounds for a refurbishment of the ground, owner MCC has ruled out selling the naming rights to the historic venue, with chairman Keith Bradshaw stating that the self-eulogised 'home of cricket' shouldn't be tainted by a sponsor's imprimature. Bradshaw will also resist attempts to re-brand the stands, currently named for cricketing greats, and he insists that the "traditions of the venue are more important than revenue". Good on him.
