Preview: Native Spirit Festival

native spirit.jpg The 3rd Native Spirit Festival is an annual season of films, talks and performances promoting the cultures of Indigenous people. Brought to us by the Native Spirit Foundation a non-profit, charitable organisation, it also funds educational resources for young indigenous people and is run independently, entirely by its volunteers.

Native Spirit offers the European public an opportunity to glimpse into the worlds of some of the oldest surviving and most marginalised people on this planet; from the Chilean Andes to Arctic Canada. These often over-looked communities are rooted in ancient traditions, cultures and languages, yet are more commonly characterised today by displacement, conflict and exploitation.

The festival is a way of giving back a voice to the indigenous people, to recount history from their perspective and to share their diverse cultures and wisdom.

The Festival Opens on 30 Oct with some Indigenous poetry by Albert Pellicer, Rikki Shields and other guests followed by a couple of films and a Q&A session with one of the films directors, Rodrigo Vazquez.

Films are grouped into screening sessions and tickets are available on the door or in advance. Also available is a festival pass for £35.

30 Oct - 6 Nov Venues: Amnesty International HRAC , 16MM Cafe and Bolivar Hall
