Pope Benedict XVI Will Visit Britain in 2010

pope1.jpg After receiving a formal invitation from Gordon Brown in February, His Holiness plans to visit Britain next year. His trip will mark the first papal visit since May 1982, when John Paul II visited several cities including Cardiff, London, and Edinburgh. There is still speculation as to where Pope Benedict will go and what he will do but it seems likely that he will discuss the potential canonisation of Cardinal Newman, who reportedly cured a US Roman Catholic deacon from a crippling spinal disease. He may also visit Northern Ireland, which would make him the second head of the Catholic Church to do so in over 500 years. We can't be sure, but we also get the sneaking suspicion that he's going to impose a taste of that good ol' fashioned guilt upon us for those infamous atheist buses. (Image by Balom)
