Swine Flu Update: 'Almost Epidemic' in London

Some swine flus, yesterday. Dig the porky pink colour.

England's Chief Medical Chap, Sir Liam Donaldson, has described the number of swine flu cases in London as 'approaching epidemic levels', with around 180 in every 100,000 people seeking medical attention. Nationwide, 14 people have died of the 10,000 known to have contracted the virus. Globally, that puts us into an unwelcome bronze medal position, behind Mexico and the USA. The situation is clearly getting more serious because at least two celebrities have been affected. Meanwhile, The Times suggests muddled thinking is threatening emergency plans.

The doctors didn't give me a formal diagnosis before I was discharged, but I heard them saying it could have been swine flu after they told me they thought it was Anthrax, a ruptured appendix or even Meningitis because I was so ill.

I thought this whole 'swine flu' thing was over and I think may people were misdiagnosed anyway. If you've ever had flu you will KNOW the difference between that and a bad cold. You will be shivering and convulsing uncontrollably, having hot and cold flushes with a 39,40+ degree fever, you will ache all over so bad you don't want to even breath, coughing will feel like you just stabbed yourself with your own ribs, food is a turn off and every light source will do nothing for your headache and dizziness. In short, you will want to die.

Well that's how I felt anyway, would have swapped the worst cold in the world to stop feeling like that. I was never bothered by the whole 'swine flu' thing because I thought we as a developed country just wanted some 'disaster-movie-style' drama and were over-reacting, even when it hit Alleyn's school, down the road from my old secondary school which we regularly had fixtures with and visits too. I seriously thought the hand gel and tissue bins crap was a load of nonsense. I saw ads for getting the flu jab but they only said children and old people needed it. I'm 18 now, I'm supposedly strong enough to fight it off when it's in the 'feels like a cold' stage. I've changed my mind now. People need to be vaccinated and learn the difference between a cold and flu. And the idiot who said 'swine flu is no big deal, It's no worse than normal flu'... well that prick has obviously never had Influenza in his life. On the 3 occasions I've had a genuine flu, It was so bad I forgot how one could feel so sick without actually being dead.
