Walk To Work Week, 27 April - 1 May

Walking.jpg Walking Works is the campaign to get people walking to and from work, for the obvious benefits of avoiding the commute and getting fit, but also the less tangible benefits such as never being at the mercy of a bus that decides to terminate a few stops early, having time to think and learning more about your local area.

Next week, Monday 27 to Friday 1 May is Walk to Work Week and you can join in by registering then building your profile once the week has kicked off. See how far you have walked measured in footprints, Sydney Harbour bridges and cupcakes burned off, see how far everyone else has walked and be in the running for some prizes. If you're into that sort of thing at work, get your whole workplace involved and register as a team. As a partner in Slow Down London, we highly recommend walking to work - it's amazing what you miss when you're stuck on the tube, face pressed into someone's armpit, praying you'll move out of the tunnel soon. Read about our walks from last year for inspiration and motivation.

For extra motivation, we'd like to see some photos from your walk to work, so once you've registered with Walk to Work week, grab your camera and get clicking on your way in. Load your photos to Flickr, add the tags 'SlowDownLondon09', 'WalkToWork09' and of course, 'Londonist' and we'll pull together a gallery of the best walking to work photos for the end of the week.
