Santa's Lap: USB Fun At The Science Museum

Every day until Christmas the Londonist team will be pointing you in the direction of a Christmas present that (with a bit of luck) you won't already have on your list. Climb up onto our collective lap and we'll see what we can move from our sack to your stockings...

Shoppers seeking gifts that fluoresce, fly, oscillate or gyre naturally gravitate toward the Science Museum store. Here you'll find an Armstrong's cave of spaceships, dinosaurs and gadgets galore - everything from cheap sci-tat to a digital microscope. Of particular note this year are the large number of USB-powered devices on offer. We're sorely tempted by the USB coffee warmer, even if the thermodynamics are somewhat dubious. Then there's the cutely sinister i-buddy, who gesticulates and glows in response to IM messages. Other lines include a USB rechargeable AA battery and a novelty alien webcam. If you're thinking of getting them all, you'll also need to purchase the USB Hub Man (pictured), the most nerdy yet utile superhero we've ever heard of.
