Over The Counter Pill

Live in Lewisham or Southwark? From next summer these primary care trusts will be piloting a scheme to make the contraceptive pill available over the pharmacy counter; no more faffing about with prescriptions. Women will still be interviewed by a qualified nurse or pharmacist to keep a lookout for any side effects or contraindications though. Lewisham and Southwark have high rates of teenage pregnancy so it's hoped this pilot will encourage young women to use contraception, but we also hope it doesn't shift emphasis away from condoms and STI prevention.
