The air feels a little crisper. Leaves crunch underfoot. Daylight’s shorter, but twilight glows more warmly. It’s apple season. Such bundle-up weather has Londonist pulling out our most favoured woolly jumpers (well, we never really put them away) and listening to disproportionate amounts of Neil Young. Autumnal conditions have got hold of Moti Mahal’s Chef Ani as well. In fact, the dude’s come up with a collection of ten apple chutneys to sample for the next month or so. We were happy to drop by this afternoon for a taste and can attest these are some yummy chutneys indeed. We particularly enjoyed the Bleinham orange apple chutney with mint and caraway seed and were most impressed by the Egremont Russet with Caol Ila Twelve Years and lemon zest (really spectacular). We could run down the rest of the yummies for ya, but Eat Out Magazine was kind enough to do that for us already. Nice one.

We’ve taken a recent liking to this Covent Garden Indian restaurant (see our review of their cookery course) and think their apple chutneys are a nice touch. Served with fresh tandoor baked breads, the apple chutney collection costs £9.50 (but keep in mind that it’s a sizable amount of food) and goes well with a variety of Moti Mahal’s dishes.
