Preview: Wine and Sushi Matching at Tsuru
Qype at Tsuru

Back in June, Londonist had a lot of fun pairing sushi with sake at Tsuru, Canvey Street’s excellent little Japanese restaurant and bar that’s a hop, skip and look-both-ways-before-crossing-the-street from the Tate Modern. Well, odds are we’re gonna head back in September for what looks to be an intriguing evening of wine and Japanese food matching on the 17th.

Damian Tillson, from Sotheby’s Wine Department, will be on hand to guide folks through six different wines, while pairing them up with dishes of Tsuru's Ippin Ryouri (Japanese tapas). According to the folks at Tsuru, some of the wines have been chosen “to emulate the delicate flavours of sushi dishes and others to stand up to the more robust textures and flavours in katsu curry and teriyaki sauce.” Considering how notoriously difficult matching Japanese food with wine can be, this friendly and “down to earth” event should encourage some interesting discussion and promises to be an enlightening experience for epicureans, from entry level to hardened foodie.

Tickets went on sale today and will set ya back £35. Visit tsuru-sushi.co.uk for more details. To book, contact Emma Reynolds: 07944 848740/[email protected].
