Bionic Eastender?

This is a tad bizarre:

Former EastEnders star Michelle Ryan has landed the lead role in a remake of 1970s TV show The Bionic Woman. The 22-year-old, who played Zoe Slater in the BBC soap for five years, beat a host of Hollywood names to the role, according to industry paper Variety. She will play Jaime Sommers, a tennis professional whose body is rebuilt with electronic parts after an accident, giving her superhuman abilities.

Readers of a certain age will have fond memories of Lindsay Wagner in the original series, especially the crossover episodes in which she teamed up with a mustachioed Lee Majors as The Six Million Dollar Man.

That show is currently under the threat of a remake as a big budget movie with (christ help us) Jim Carrey. The new Bionic Woman show is probably going to be the one to watch as (the last we heard) the people behind the resurrection of Battlestar Galactia are on board. BSG came out of nowhere to become one of the best TV shows in recent years (Lost wishes it were half as good) so perhaps the renewed adventures of Jaime Sommers will be well worth a look.

We have no idea what to make of the casting though. The last time Eastenders was on the Londonist box, Lofty was still in it. But while we're on the subject of casting we should probably mention that Billie Piper is all set to play London call girl, Belle de Jour for Channel Four. Maybe she'll finally get that pent up sexual frustration out of her system after teasing a certain Timelord's sonic-screwdriver for so long.

Now we want to see Mike Reid cast as Buck Rogers.
