Tiger Eye Firecracker Showcase Competition
Firecracker 2006

The Tiger Eye Firecracker Showcase kicks off tomorrow night with an opening night preview of Kekexili (Mountain Patrol). There's free Tiger beer before hand and a Q&A session afterwards. Thanks to the kind folks at Firecracker Magazine and Tiger Beer, Londonist readers have the chance to win one of four double passes for tomorrow night's event at The Curzon Mayfair (6.45pm).

Read on and then answer the simple question for a chance to win.

A genuine masterwork from one of China’s rising stars - director Lu Chuan - Kekexili is an unforgettable genre-straddling drama. Part riveting adventure movie, part Eastern version of a Western, the story follows a volunteer group patrolling the inhospitable wastes of the Tibetan plateau to protect the indigenous antelopes against poachers. Bleak but life-affirming, thrilling and emotionally arresting, Kekexili evokes the power of nature in a way few films before have succeeded in doing.

“No film of the last decade, not even Malick's The New World, has displayed such a ferocious intimacy with extreme landscape.” Village Voice

“Stunning adventure… like a John Ford western set, not in the master's beloved Monument Valley, but in remotest China...” New York Post

Fingers on buzzers:

Which director is doing a Q & A session on the opening night?

Drop your answer here and good luck.

NOTE: This competition is now closed. Thanks to all who entered and congratulations to the winners.

The Showcase runs until the 24th. You can check out the full lineup here and we'll also be reviewing some of the movies in advance of their screenings.
