Living as we do in the part of London known as Surrey, we see quite a few posters around for Twickenham's Airhammer. We hadn't quite got around to catching their latest release: Sword Of Fire but there was a nice write up in the NME the last time we read it. So when an email arrived saying they were recording the Korean World Cup Anthem, we had to investigate.
Korea was originally intended to be part of a local charity's attempts to raise funding for under-priveledged areas of Britain by recording a song for each of the nations competing. Only by British bands. As it happens, the project is currently on hold but Airhammer are striking out by making their version of the Korean Anthem available to the world in an attempt to relieve us all from a deadly summer of 3 Lions In Your Vindaloo. Should the song ever be officially released then all proceeds will go to the charity.
It's a wonderful piece of rocking cod-operatic terrace chanting, repleat with trumpets and fat ladies shouting. Freddie Mercury would have been proud. And we have it for you to listen to here.
Should you wish to sing along the words go like this:
Korea Korea
In Germany our flags will be flying high
Korea Korea
Our brave footballers do or die
Korea Korea
The strength of a lions pride
Korea Korea
A sea with the strongest tide.
Sacred dragon rising, Sacred dragon rising
Eleven comets burning very bright
Sacred dragon rising, Sacred dragon rising
Eleven football players in full fight.
Korea Korea
Hearts like the oceans deep
Korea Korea
With joy we laugh and never weep
Korea Korea
World champion's we'll soon be
Korea Korea
Asia stronger than a tsunami
Korea Korea
Sacred spirit rising up
Korea Korea
We'll win footballs golden cup
Love football x8
Football is coming to Dutch land in June x2
We hope to bring you a little more from Airhammer in the near future.
