Another chunk of the London skyline is due to change for the better (we hope):

Renzo Piano's 'gem' building for the site between Borough High Street and London Bridge station has been granted planning consent by Southwark Council. Known as New London Bridge House, the scheme will involve the demolition of an existing 20-storey office tower and replacing it with a 600,000 sq ft office and retail building.

This means that London Bridge station will get even more confusing for tourists as another entrance to the station is planned along with a new bus station. The poor lost souls confusing the lowly London Bridge with the much more iconic Tower Bridge will now have even more places to get turned around.

Once the Shard itself goes up expect more lacklustre American thrillers in the mould of Basic Instinct II to use the area as a backdrop.
