Time once again to take a gander at a couple of shows coming up over the next seven days that have shone out from within the Londonist Music inbox. Most of the action this week is taking place in sold out venues across the capital with names such as James Blunt and The Magic Numbers re-invigorating the (qu)easy listening genre, whilst Kanye West continues to be the biggest name in hip hop since the last one - they change so quickly these days.
Tonight: Semi-shoegazing, indie-grunge gothsters Lorca take to the stage at 11pm at the Fruit-fly club, Woody’s, 41 Woodfield Road, Westbourne Park, W9. Proceedings kick off at 9pm, DJs until 2am and only a fiver to get in.
Saturday: It's good to hear that The Delta Blues have some new material on the way, some of which should be played at the Borderline tonight. They're the opening act and you can get in for a fiver with this flyer
If you're of a nervous disposition, then Sweden's Jeniferever look well placed to steal the Sigur Ros crown of drifty, ambient guitar loveliness without being too wibbly or just plain barking. They play the Notting Hill Arts Club in West London and entry is FREE! Doors open at 4pm and close at 8. Jeniferever on stage at 7pm.
Last August we told you about an eBay auction to raise money for the family of London guitarist Andy Roberts from the band Linus, who was tragically killed in a hit and run accident. This Saturday sees a celebration of his life in music, readings and visual art at The Spitz (109 Commercial Street, Old Spitalfields Market). 5.30pm – 7.30pm reception and DJs / 7.30pm - 1am live music, readings and DJs. There will be a £5 entry charge to cover venue hire costs and also be a collection for Abortion Rights, the charity Andy supported and the Intensive Care Unit at The Royal London Hospital, which cared for him.
This event is open to ALL, not just family and friends.
A little quiet for the rest of the week but don't worry, we have a doozer for you next Thursday. In the meantime if you can get tickets for any of these shows, then you should be guaranteed your money's worth, whatever you paid: Nickel Creek at The Queen Elizabeth Halls on Monday, and either Elbow at the Astoria or Isobel Campbell at Bush Hall, both on Tuesday. And finally our thoughts t the friends and family of London-born soul singer Lynden David Hall who succumbed to a two-year battle with Hodgkin's Lymphoma on Tuesday. He was 31-years-old.
