Londonist had a great time watching The Bees at Brixton Academy last night, although we stopped just short of doing our chicken impression during Chicken Payback.

If you took our advice and got yourself to Brixton too, and you're in the mood for more funky dancing, Saturday night (5th March) sees Rock'n'Roll Soul host the launch party for Scorched Earth, "a new compilation of funky rock". Stuart Kirkham and Chas Chandler, who compiled the album, will be joining regulars Gary, Nat, Al, Martin and Jimmy in manning the decks, and will be playing tracks from the compilation. They also promise to play some other tracks too. Good job, or else it'd be a very repetitive evening, unless the compilation happens to be six hours long. Rock'n'Roll Soul takes place at The Albany, opposite Great Portland Street tube, and doors are 8.30pm, chucking out at 2.30am. Entry is a fiver, or a quid less if you're a tax-dodging student with an NUS card.

While we're on the subject of good nights out, Xfm are having a Big Night Out, on Thursday 24th March at the Brixton Academy in support of Oxfam. This will be the biggest club night in Xfm's history featuring 4 dance floors with a veritable smorgasbord of Xfm DJs, including breakfast show saviour Christian O'Connell, the gorgeous Lauren Laverne, Alex Zane, Iain (eye-ay-eye-en) Baker, Eddy Temple Morris, Chris Smith, Dan Greenpeace, John Kennedy and Xfm's First Friday resident Jared. As if that wasn't enough, there will be exclusive live sets from three of this year's best up-and-coming acts, Nine Black Alps, Do Me Bad Things and Hard-Fi. Doors are 9pm-3am, tickets are £9 in advance (available from the Xfm Xchange 0871 222 1049 or the Brixton Academy box office 0870 771 2000) or £12 on the door.

We'd go ourselves but we're off to see Derren Brown that evening, playing at Croydon's Fairfield Halls, but do let us know what the night's like.
