Not just the colours of the rainbow but also the many varying types of spectral woman seen around the world. Just like black and grey monks, ladies adorned in varying colours are considered the archetype female spirit as they are oft' seen floating through graveyards, dusty corridors......

We all know the Wombling song; that they're tidy and clean and make good use of the things the everyday folks leave behind. A lesser known line in the full version of the popular Wimbledon Common song is Wombles are "incredibly, utterly devious" and hey ho, that's been borne out today as locals living close to the All England Club are flogging their special Tournament resident parking permits on eBay. These were special yellow......

Here’s what we’ve learned this weekend whilst you were out trooping the colour: Is carelessness catching? More sensitive documents have been left on a train. Londonist feels bad if we leave our umbrella on a train, let alone the nation’s secrets. As two C of E clergymen wed in the City of London, there is an entirely predictable outburst of outraged tosh. Wandsworth are being busy bees this weekend: firstly they have declared that......

So the worst has happened. You've got yourself in a spot of drug-related bother (possibly after following Croydon's cut-out-and-keep guide) and been sent down to do a bid. Worse still, that pill-popping has left you with a fiendish habit, all cold sweats and shaky hands without that daily fix. How to feed the drug monkey on your back? See if you can score a transfer to Wandsworth Prison. According to a report by the......

We all know that Thai food can prove hazardous, but if you're thinking of visiting your favourite seafood restaurant anytime soon, then stop reading now: a Wandsworth woman died after suffering an allergic reaction to a Thai prawn soup - despite never having a prior problem with prawns. Elizabeth Hoborough was discovered gasping for breath by her husband in the early hours of the morning of February 28th, and despite being quickly rushed to......

Forget rivers of blood, famine and locusts; Tooting and Putney motorists, cyclists and motorcyclists are suffering the daily torment of perpetual potholes, some up to 6 inches deep. The local paper delved into council funding and found that their budget for footway and carriageway repairs was £1m less than it was 3 years ago. Wandsworth blame this on the cyclical nature of funding from central government and claim that all reported potholes are programmed......

Businesses in Wandsworth are being invited to open up their private facilities for public convenience in return for a Council payment of £600 a year. Wandsworth want to recruit 100 toilets which would be clearly advertised and annually inspected, to replace some underused "Automatic Public Conveniences" (APCs) and complement other Council provision across the borough. We imagine, however, that only businesses that usually provide toilets for their customers would bother signing up to go......

This weekend 670 swimmers from 21 countries will converge on the Tooting Bec Lido to take part in the international Winter Swimming Championships 2008. The event, which always takes place in an unheated outdoor pool, is being held outside Finland for the first time ever. Olivia Brown, a member of hosts the South London Swimming Club and entrant in three of this weekend's races, took time out from training to tell Londonist why she's......

A Putney cottage designed by Erno Goldfinger has been illegally destroyed. Arbus Ltd, of Croydon, applied for permission to pull down the building in 2002, but was refused. Living up to his surname, Director of the company Rajiv Laxman paid little heed to the order and the building’s Grade II listed status, demolishing the cottage anyway. He’s now been ordered to pay £11,000 and forced to rebuild the property using the same design and......

Barry George launches second appeal against his conviction as Dando killer. Remember that plane at Heathrow, which lost its wing tip in a collision? Well, it flew 24 hours later with the wing tip still missing. Perfectly safe, though, apparently. 'Brick Lane' premiers in London amid controversy. Rubbish charging is...rubbish, thinks Mayor.
