Here at Londonist we love to indulge in all sorts of devilishly scrumptious treats. However, we know healthy, conscientious eating is the key to a happy life. Okay office rats. We know you all bring home the bacon and are well aware that many of you really rake in the dough. But, do you pick enough fruit to be a healthy and happy worker? Odds are you don’t and that’s where Fruit for the......

Here’s what we’ve learned while you’ve been battening down your hatches and bringing the cattle in: In the weekend crime round-up…police were rather cross to be shot at on Friday, while there was an unseemly brawl outside Claire’s Accessories (we blame the pink feather boas). And in the wannabe-crime round-up, meet the bunny burglar who managed to cage himself. Shiny new terminal, shiny new security measures: there will be fingerprinting for all at T5.......

And we’re not just talking about the hills of the Chankly Bore. Londoners are being advised to batten down the hatches on Monday morning, when a rather ferocious weather front is predicted to romp across the UK. The Met Office has gotten all serious on us. After that weather forecast, they have of course been awfully careful, but this seems to be more than the normal, jovial ‘wrap-up-a-bit-warmer’ banter. And even our favourite meteorological website......

Government departments are being asked to switch from bottled to humble tap water for lubricating the endless meetings involved in running the Civil Service. Hot on the heels of Ken's campaign to get London's diners to insist on tap water in restaurants, this switch could save Whitehall more than £100,000 a year according to a Panorama investigation into council spend on bottled water. DEFRA, which has already made the switch, was draining a jolly......

Despite Londoners being inveigled mere days ago to report any suspicious activity to the police, people in Marylebone are now being advised to, er, do the opposite. The reason? A Home Office-run project is to simulate a dirty bomb attack on the capital. The trials, part of a study called Dispersion of Air Pollution and Penetration into the Local Environment, or DAPPLE, will involve scientists releasing colourless, odourless gas from canisters on the street.......

It's not quite the same as having the local bobby back on the beat, but a scheme trialled in south London that addresses public unease with the remote, impersonal nature of modern policing is set to be rolled out across London. The £325 million Home Office plan will see each council ward assigned a team of police and community support officers, with residents given a mobile phone number and email address to contact their......

Even on its quietest weeks, London is something of a happy haven for bibliophiles such as ourselves, though we may be doing nothing more than perusing one of the city’s many lovely bookshops. This week, however, we’re in a veritable book geek heaven, as the London literary scene goes all glittery, playing host to some major names and fantastic events, leaving us tongue-tied and weak at the knees. Do we gush? Very well then,......

Every now and again we try and bring you the finer things in life. Sure, there's loads of indie, goth, electro and Viking death metal to talk about but what about music on the more classical end of the spectrum? Portico Quartet are currently touring their "inimitable" sound with Basquiat Strings and will headline a gig at the Union Chapel this Friday. We'll be there but we're not sure what to expect. They have......

Office Robots Following on from the theme of Office Culture and the influence this can have on how nice we are to each other… this week I started thinking about the actual role we do all day, every day… Now, I realise that lately it's been a very easy thing to take shots at......

This weekend column is brought to you by the founders of Niceties Tokens, Liz and Pete of Team Nice. 32. Office Boy Band So recently I have been looking at office culture and anti-social issues within the workplace. Purely because over the years I have found that some offices are really friendly and some are not. Whilst every workplace will have peculiar individuals, an office culture sits in the air of the building, and......

The next time you're stuck in a black cab ensnarled in traffic on the North Circular, the rain sluicing through the cracked window onto your chinos, and the cabbie turns to you with a wry grin and cracks a line about how great the weather is in San Diego this time of year, be wary: this effusive endorsement of all things Americana may not be as innocent as it seems. US outfit Taxi Promotions......

Office Sociology We all know how we our personality type can be taken into account for our role within our work place. Sometimes our personalities are chosen to make the perfect team, like a manufactured boy band. But what about the subculture within the office itself? And then what about the effect on our......

Sadlers Wells Sampled is a brilliant format that brings you a 'tapas' of top notch professional dance for just £10 (or a fiver if you're prepared to 'prom' it.) It's the perfect introduction to dance and an great opportunity to sample new styles in one night. We tried to tempt you with brand new dance at The Place last week. Well, this week we're being a bit more forthright, tooting a big red horn......

It’s Christmas Eve already? How did that happen? Surely you’re all done your shopping now, so time to reward yourself with a few nice things to watch on TV. On TV, Londonist likes: Jamie at Home Christmas Special (Channel 4, 17:10-18:15) Say what you will about Jamie Oliver, he puts on an entertaining cooking show. And we’re guessing this Christmas episode will be chock full of amazing dishes that will look incredibly simple and......

There have been big changes at Londonist this year - we've had new staff, a new commenting system and a brand new tagging system installed so we had a lot to celebrate at the Christmas party. And as we're not keen on making trouble for ourselves, only for other people, we thought we would go to a party already arranged for us; last night a hearty party of Londonistas headed off to the Barbican......

It's tempting to bask in the success of the re-branded O2 and write off the building's seven year existence as useless white elephant de nos jours as a bad dream. Unfortunately, that was no nightmare, and it seems that financially the Millennium Dome never stood a chance. The assembled politicians and VIPs had barely clunked their awkward way through Auld Lang Syne on December 31st, 1999, before the whole project was skint. Newly released......

Advent is upon us. Hanukkah starts on Wednesday. Office parties are already everywhere. Tis the season to be jolly, jolly, jolly but we know this can be draining, emotionally and financially. Don't let the state of your wallet throw you over the edge. We can't afford to buy tickets to the BFI IMAX all-nighter next weekend and we're not allowed to enter our own competition. But we can do the following splendid things for......

Blues skies aside, winter is upon us - the halcyon days of summer a distant memory; thermals and visible breath a present reality. Therefore what better way to raise darkened spirits during these darkened days than going to the comedy and loosing yourself in laughter? We at Londonist certainly think this is a great plan (we’ve been on a not-so-secret comedy revival mission for years), and good news for us, Stewart Lee is playing at......

A week after opening for the Queen, St Pancras International is finally ready for the likes of us. The station has been restored beyond its former glory. Britain's answer to Central Station is ready for business. Everyone knows by now that the sumptious Euston Road frontage to the station was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott. But what else in London did the Great Scott design? Time to dust off our old 'Stalks' series,......

If you've been past the Bow Street entrance to the Royal Opera House lately you'll have seen Royal Ballet principal dancer Edward Watson smouldering gingerly in a full face poster shot, stating: Meet Ed. Fact: When he's dancing, pound for pound, he's stronger than a rhino. Superheroes really do wear tights. You see what the Opera House is doing? It's sexing up. In your face! To underpin its efforts at drawing in new audiences......

Tuesday – 30th October 1883: A group known as the Fenian Dynamiters detonates a bomb on the Metropolitan Railway, injuring 62 people. Sir Ian Blair dismissed favouring non-white applicant recruits to the Met as "yesterday's solution" at a National Black Police Association debate yesterday. The recruitment bus rolls into Trafalgar Square's Diwali celebrations this weekend to demonstrate the Met's policy of targeting their recruitment at black and Asian communities. As they say, The better we reflect London's diverse communities, the better we're able to serve them. The Met is still struggling to represent London, however, and......

Londonist knows at least 2 people who've admitted they've started their Christmas shopping. We're not even thinking about it until we at least get past our birthday but, hot on the heels of Davro's Dick, here's our second slice of upcoming panto season. The Barbican's full of beans on its 25th birthday this year with "singer, actress, dancer and celebrity" Suzanne Shaw taking the part of Princess Melody in Jack and the Beanstalk (whatever......

While most of us pride ourselves on our dutiful home recycling now that the Council comes and picks it up it seems that in the work place Londoners have less of a conscience. About half of us admitted to not thinking twice about chucking out forests of paper, mindlessly wasting disposable cups and leaving lights and machines on 24/7. Mostly because we don't have to pay the bills at the end of the day.......

We’ve got a right one here – the tale of the wannabe strangler who half choked his chosen victim, immediately felt sorry, and then called 999 to summons an ambulance for her. Young Toby Vane is now quite rightly up in court over his, er, aberration. He claims that he was quite simply pissed off with his (we imagine former) friend after she had verbally tormented him for years. Londonist is impressed. This is clearly......

We said it would be unpredictable. We weren't wrong. We also hinted at nudity and, oh yes, we got the full frontal and more. However, the opening night of the "Touch Wood" new and work in progress season at The Place was strangely lacking in buzz. Unfortunate surprise number one was that Probe, who we'd been hotly anticipating, were all a bit poorly and had to pull out. So, actual programming by the seat......
