It’s been another bruising week in the London mayoral election campaign. Eccentric Tory contender Boris Johnson may have had the best of it. On Tuesday Ken Livingstone announced that drivers of gas-guzzlers will be charged £25 to enter the Congestion Zone from October – assuming he’s re-elected. The Greens support the move, but the Lib Dems’ Brian Paddick – he’s the gay, “cannabis cop” from Brixton, you’ll recall – was critical, notably of the same......

Yee-hah! Woo-hoo! Yippy-kayay! And other such celebratory noises. After umpteen years (actually 20 or so) and countless debates and immeasurable lengths of newspaper footage, Crossrail has today been given the funding green light. Londonist can only join the chorus of approval on this. To quote the Man in Seat 61: Like the RER in Paris, this will bring suburban trains right through the centre of the city and out the other side, relieving the Underground......

Oh dear! There’ll be trouble in the Square tonight. Trafalgar, that is, not Albert. There’s a new kid on the block – and he’s (er, literally) dead creepy. Anubis, ancient Egyptian god of all things dead and deadly, has come to town. He’s attached to the O2 marketing team, and he’s been plonked next to Nelson to promote the forthcoming Tutankhamun expo at the dome. We don’t think Mayor Livingstone will be too pleased about......

It would seem that Mayor Livingstone, famous for courting the unusual, is at it again. He is new-best-friends with the Polish community in London. His jolly japes this time include a Polish reception at Town Hall, replete with pierogi and pickles, and a trip to POSK, the Polish Community Centre in Hammersmith. He is quite the darling of the Polish press, by all accounts. Of course only the very cynical would suggest that it has......

For only Ken Livingstone has the right blend of schmaltz and gravitas to deliver yesterday’s ground-breaking apology for London’s involvement in the slave trade. Generally speaking, Londonist is a little cynical when it comes to apologists. The national apology is the grandest theatrical gesture of politics, and the ultimate in political correctitude for those in thrall to politicians. And we reckon it has to top baby-kissing and hospital-bedside-visiting for ensuring a swift ratings boost......

London is well accustomed to the old North/South debate. In times fortunately gone by, the question of on which side of the river you resided was up with whether you eat peas off your knife in terms of social significance. It seems however that recently there is something of an East/West issue as well. According to our man at Wandsworth town hall, those spoiled westerners of Acton and beyond have been offered a viable......

You know what we're talking about here, so let's get right down to it: as thorough a roundup as we can of what Ken said to Finegold and what the papers are making of it all. The actual conversation: Oliver Finegold: Mr Livingstone, Evening Standard. How did tonight go? Livingstone: How awful for you. Have you thought of having treatment? Finegold: How did tonight go? Livingstone: Have you thought of having treatment? Finegold: Was......
