We love it when you can you see the dazzling Hollywood glamour of old films in nice locations. With the NFT it's one of the things London is so good at giving us, and there's more and more random film events popping up including this summer's Smirnoff Black Screenings. Running until 27 August, Smirnoff are hosting a Wednesday night film club at Bluebird on Kings Road, Chelsea. It's £5 per person for a film......

Last night's shoot out in Markham Square, near the Kings Road, ended with the police taking out the gunman. The BBC reports the 32 year old gunman (or gun maniac if you're reading the Sun) firing at police between 17.00 and 21.30 with the police returning fire on each occasion. Once the gunman was pronounced dead, the incident was reported to the Independent Police Complaints Commission for investigation at 21.50. There's no news on what......

Breaking news: there has been a shoot out involving the police (and presumably some felons) on the Kings Road. Of which more undoubtedly later. Most Londoners are unaware of the symptoms of a heart attack, so they’ve gotten up a campaign to educate us. Noisy bugger has (an awful lot of) equipment seized by ever, um, ‘efficient’ Ealing council. One for bridge geeks, this: another link for the East London line has been swung......

King's Road in Chelsea is closed due to an incident involving gunfire: members of the public reported hearing gun shots in the area and police were fired at when they approached. The armed police officers discharged their weapons in return at approximately 5pm and the incident is still unfolding. No injuries have been reported, no arrests have been made yet but King's Road is closed and shops in the immediate area are closed. Business owners......

Climb up onto our collective lap and we'll see what we can move from our sack to your stockings.. Even seasoned Londoners like learning more about their home city. We're proof - we put our own......

The International Workshop Festival has been rumbling away in the city since 28 August, allowing the bold and brave to take part in workshops and experiments in performing arts with specially invited artists and practitioners. As the festival draws to a close, a curious couple of performers and experiments have cropped up on our radar. Anyone willing to take part is definitely a friend of ours, and we want to hear from you what......

There are plenty of nice places to walk around in the posh Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC): Kensington Palace, Kings Road, Harvey Nichols... Streets, parks, palaces and shops are all a shade nicer than the rest of town but only a very select handful of privileged people get to call it local. You jammy gits. Nonetheless, this summer, the Arts Service team of the RBKC have kindly put together a lovely little......

Ah, the autumn of 2003, with imitation Russian hats for sale on Fulham Broadway amidst gathering hope that plucky “Chelski”, bankrolled by glamorous Russian gazillionaire Roman Abramovich, were going finally to break open the Arsenal – Manchester United deadlock. In the three years since then the loudest criticism the Chelsea owner has had to endure has been that the traditional big boys can’t keep up. A few voices have stubbornly alleged darkness in Abramovich’s......

London is, of course, home to people from every country on earth and even people from nations that are not widely recognised. One moment when this comes into sharper focus than usual is every four years during the world cup when corners of the capital resound to the rejoicing and dismay of those who love London, but still retain deep ties with their homeland that come to the fore when national pride is on......

A quick-thinking friend of Londonist captured this bit of creative sign-doctoring in Richmond. The shop, normally called 'Rugger', has had an amusing horizontal added, creating a rival to FCUK in the burgeoning field of rudely named clothes outlets. (See also Belsize Fashions, and Scruttocks of Kings Road).......

In last week's edition of the FPP, John Hirst excelled himself with a score of 4 out of 5, only missing out on the full 100% through a flippant proclamation that Wigan would overturn Man U in the League Cup Final. So close to perfection! Truly thrilling stuff, I'm sure you'll agree. Even more thrilling was the fact that two people, real living people, not just Londonist writers pretending to be other people, actually......

Last week, the FA's David Barber showed that whilst he may know a thing or two about stats, he's not much cop at the predictions game. A paltry two out of six for David, who'll have been trying to avoid bumping into Trevor Brooking in Soho Square all week, for fear of receiving a volley of abuse from the apparently mild-mannered but secretly sharp-tongued Essex footballing legend. If the FA can't master this art,......

Looking for a new job? Fan of thumb-based mayhem, violence and controversy? Us too. And most of the rest of London. So the news that Rockstar Games are to open a new development studio right here in the Big Smoke will cause a flurry of CV writing amongst the hoards of would-be game designers in the capital. Rockstar, of course, are the software house behind the hugely successful, achingly violent Grand Theft Auto series......

Me Three is a cracking literary website that's edited by Londonist's very own columnist Sarah Stodola. For a couple of years Me Three existed quite successfuly in the digital arena, but at the end of last year they made the brave shift into the grown-up world of hardcopy with their first print edition. And a fine edition it was too. Yes we know we're biased, but we take our literary stuff pretty seriously here......
