Starting tomorrow and running until 15 June, a rather impressive list of London gastropubs (along with some help from Spain’s Institut del Cava) will offer buy one/get one free glasses of Cava. Sounds like a brilliant opportunity to give this Spanish bubbly a try or to indulge in an extra glass or three if you’re already a fan, not to mention the chance to come across as generous to friends that might be unaware......

Pity London's poor crafty underagers. A further hurdle was today placed in the way of their illegally buying booze and fags as supermarket chain Budgens unveiled a trial of hi-tech face-recognition cameras in one of its London stores – technology that will weed out teenage drinkers and smokers before they reach the tills. First the smoking ban. Then Boris's quaint 'don't drink on the tube' posters. Indulging in our favourite national pastimes is getting......

A forthcoming publication of a new James Bond novel by Sebastian Faulks marks Ian Fleming’s 100th birthday and presents the perfect opportunity for 5th View (the fifth floor bar atop Waterstone’s Piccadilly location, Europe’s largest bookstore) to celebrate the occasion with a new martini menu. From 19 May to 30 June, 5th View will be shaking, not stirring, four classic and four contemporary new martinis. Spies for Londonist were able to obtain a top......

Kindly, these booze-savvy Fancyapinters have decided to share their latest picks with Londonist and all our readers. Cheers! Here’s the current list from Fancyapint? in no particular order of merit. If a few months from now you’re sipping a cocktail at one of London’s trendier cocktail bars and you notice a few squishy gold flecked bubbly pearls floating around in your glass, don’t be alarmed; that’s just Cointreau Caviar. Yes, Londonist has seen (and sipped) the future of booze, and it’s ridiculously over the top, rather tasty and derived from a scientific molecular mixology process. Last night saw Cointreau’s London launch of what it......

Coconut, black pepper and rum frappé? Why not. Chive and pineapple with vodka? Sure. Maker’s Mark, Angostura Bitters and fig syrup? Hey, we’re so buzzed from the first two cocktails, at this point we’ll try anything. And at around six or seven quid per drink, we can (on rare occasion) actually afford a little frilly drink exploration. The Shish Bar and Cocktail Lounge in exotic Willesden Green (yes, the same Shish with that corner......

London is getting more dangerous by the day ladies and gentlemen. It's not enough that a quick trip down Oxford Street is going to leave you gasping like a floundering flounder on the deck of a homeward bound fishing trawler, now you can't even grab the number of your local brass from that phone booth down the road in safety. Well, not if you live in Camden, so breath easy SE London for the......

We've seen you racing down Rainbow Road in the queue at Sainsbury's. We've also noticed you desperately arranging tetrominoes on the tube and catching Pokémon at the bus stop, so we know you're just as addicted to playing Nintendo DS as we are. For over a year now, DS:London has been organising frequent pub meetups where fans of the handheld console can gather for competition and conversation over pints. If you've been playing alone,......

The name of the band Korpiklaani means 'forest clan' in Finnish, so perhaps it isn't so surprising that the band started their set at Camden Underground an hour or so late. Our theory is that they got lost on the Tube, distracted by the leafy promise in such place-names as Oakwood or Wood Green or Green Park, only to be met with bitter disappointment upon venturing aboveground. What really matters is that Korpiklaani eventually......

If you've been past the Bow Street entrance to the Royal Opera House lately you'll have seen Royal Ballet principal dancer Edward Watson smouldering gingerly in a full face poster shot, stating: Meet Ed. Fact: When he's dancing, pound for pound, he's stronger than a rhino. Superheroes really do wear tights. You see what the Opera House is doing? It's sexing up. In your face! To underpin its efforts at drawing in new audiences......

For such a large venue David Ford's gig at the Shepherd's Bush Empire on Saturday was a dreamily intimate affair. Playing songs largely drawn from his second album, Songs for the Road, the balladeer and musician's musician enticed warm applause from the 'incredibly cool' London audience, and, despite the restraining stalls seating arrangement, had those standing at the back singing and swaying along, so much so that it was hard to hear the lyrics......

Even with the spectre of hazardous drinking looming over us, pubs are still our favourite places to be, so we were delighted to be invited along to the Fancyapint.com London pub awards 2007. Fancyapint has awards in 2 categories. The reviewers' awards are based on their dedicated team's experiences over the year and a bewilderingly scientific system of tick boxes. The visitor awards are based on a not wholly scientific but ingenious manipulation of......
