Pure power meets mind-blowing musical skill when drumming troupe Kodo takes to the stage — and it's doing exactly that in London this March.

Japan's legendary Kodo drummers travel all the way from Sado Island for two special shows, which'll leave Royal Festival Hall reverberating with the dynamic rhythms of traditional taiko drums.

Kodo is a Japanese group of artists, musicians and performers based on Sado Island in Japan. Many musical instruments are used in their performances, but they focus primarily on taiko drumming, using drums made from wood and animal hides.

Know nothing about taiko? A bit rusty on your Japanese? Don't worry — Kodo's performances transcend language and cultural boundaries, making them accessible to, and enjoyable for, everyone. The Japanese word 'kodo' can be translated two ways – 'heartbeat' or 'children of the drum' – both of which embody the essence of the troupe.

Kodo, which has been going for 45 years, has performed in 50 countries and territories across five continents, and at special events including the Opening Ceremony of the World Athletics Championships 2025 in Tokyo, and at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert in Oslo in 2021. Having the chance to catch a live performance right here in central London is quite the privilege.

So, what can you expect when Kodo takes the stage? A physically stunning and musically sensational show, combining soul-stirring rhythms with astounding synchronicity, as the performers use huge amounts of strength to draw surprisingly moving music from their instruments. All rather awe-inspiring — and it makes for an unforgettable night out!

Kodo performs at Southbank Centre on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 March 2026. Tickets are available now.
