Spare A Thought For Corona Road In SE London

Our thoughts go out to the good citizens of Corona Road, Lee, SE12. As well as facing the same challenges as the rest of us, they also have to put up with an unfortunate street name.

And yet the coincidental name doesn't appear to have affected house prices. According to one property website, average house prices on the street have gone up more than £21,000 in the past year alone. That's exactly the same in terms of percentage (6.44%) as houses in surrounding streets. So perhaps the name isn't so unfortunate after all.

Residents might find further sympathy from the inhabitants of Isis Street, Earlsfield. They, too, had to grapple with a once-benign street name suddenly gaining unhappy associations, thanks to the rise of Islamic State.

But we'd recommend they don't take the mile's walk to the north-east where they might encounter Ha-Ha Road, one of London's oddest street names, with a mocking tone.

With thanks to Helen Ilus for the tip-off.
