BAKING MASTERCLASS: Frances Quinn, the winner of the 2013 Great British Bake Off will demonstrate how to make a unique dessert and drink at a free masterclass at St Pancras Renaissance Hotel. Free, book in advance, 6pm
FANTASY AUTHOR TALK: Edward Cox, James Barclay and Jon Wallace will discuss their new books, and there's a chance for you to ask your own questions too at Blackwell's Bookshop in High Holborn. Free, just turn up, 6.30pm
BEER SWAP: Bring a beer to The Rake's monthly Hop Swap in Borough Market and sample somebody else's brew. Free, just turn up, 8pm

SPORTS CARNIVAL: Try volleyball, capoeira and football at Tower Hamlets Council's Sporting Carnival to celebrate the Rio Olympics. The family-friendly event will have live music, funfair rides and arts and crafts. Free, just turn up, from 11am
INSECT WORKSHOP: Entomologist Mike Fray will show you how to use your eyes and ears to identify bees, grasshoppers, crickets and flies at Stave Hill Ecological Park. Bring a picnic. Free, book in advance, 11am

BEER ON A BOAT: Have a craft beer on a floating bar on the River Lea, and try your hand at canoeing and paddle boarding. There's a new reed bed on the River Lea, so go down and celebrate, and listen to wildlife talks from experts. Free, just turn up, 5pm

PETER PAN WALK: Take the same walk through Hyde Park that inspired JM Barrie to write Peter Pan on this family-friendly walk. Dress up is encouraged. £5, book in advance, 11am
